OAKDALE, Minn. – Converting his birdie chance on the final hole Friday at Oak Marsh Golf Course helped Garett Sperber to a 2-under 103 to claim a one-stroke victory over Alex Rhode and Phillip Ebner to earn medalist honors at the 38th Minnesota Public Golf Association Junior Public Links Championship.

Sperber played his opening 10 holes in 2-over Friday before finishing his back nine with a flurry of three birdies over an eight-hole span to shoot 1-under 69.

Carding an early birdie at his 20th hole, Sperber moved to 2-under for the championship, but would take a step back with a bogey at his 25th hole.

Dropping his sixth birdie of the day, Sperber posted a 1-under 34 during his final nine holes to claim his first state championship title.

Rhode bounced back from early bogey trouble by carding an eagle at the par-5 seventh to turn in 1-over.

A birdie and two bogeys over his final nine helped Rhode to an opening-round 72 before three late birdies during his final nine holes pulled him within one shot of Sperber at 1-under 104.

Even through his first five Friday, Ebner stumbled over his next six holes by carding three bogeys to drop to 3-over for the championship.

He took advantage of the par-5 16th to card his second birdie of the day to finish the first 18 holes in 2-over 72.

A steady Ebner rolled in three birdies during the final nine holes to finish in red figures in a share of second at 1-under 104.

Raghuveer Cruises to Girls' Title
Taking a three-stroke advantage after the first 18 holes of play Friday, Alyssa Raghuveer cruised to a seven-stroke victory by shooting 3-under 32 during her final nine holes to finish at 1-over 106.

Coming off a top-20 finish at the Class AAA championship at Bunker Hills Golf Club to close out her sophomore season for Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School earlier this month, Raghuveer made few mistakes over her first 10 holes to remain even before a string of four consecutive bogeys would put her at 4-over for her opening 18 holes.

Tallying three birdies over her first five holes allowed Raghuveer to cruise over her final four holes to a commanding seven-stroke win over Callie Dockter.

Dockter, who earned a top-10 finish to cap off her senior year for Byron High School at the Class AA championship at Ridges at Sand Creek, stumbled during her opening nine Friday, carding four bogeys to turn in 4-over.

Helped by a late birdie during her back nine, Dockter posted a 7-over 77 before carding a 1-over 36 during the final nine holes of play to finish in second place at 8-over 113.
