NISSWA, Minn. – Entering the final round of fifth Minnesota Golf Association Net Amateur Championship five six points off the lead Wednesday at The Preserve at Grand View Lodge, David Wilson scattered four birdies over his first six holes on his way to a one-point victory over Steve Forsberg.

Wilson opened the championship with 35 points Tuesday at The Pines at Grand View Lodge before the tournament shifted venues for Wednesday’s final round.

Tallying five birdies and a par during his front nine Wednesday, Wilson quickly made his move up the leaderboard with 22 points.

He would slow his pace over the final nine holes with a double-bogey and four bogeys, but got a boost from his net birdie at the par-4 15th hole to finish with back-to-back rounds of 35 points.

Wilson, from Baker National Golf Club, betters his 2021 performance, during which he placed tied for 23rd with a total of 57 points.

Forsberg, who placed tied for sixth at last year’s championship, paced the field during the opening round Tuesday by carding six birdies against one bogey for a total of 41 points.

Also from Baker National Golf Club, Forsberg tallied one birdie and three bogeys to begin his final nine Wednesday before stumbling down the stretch, carding a final-round total of 28 points to fall one shy of Wilson at 69.

Phil Lenk, of Pebble Lake Golf Club, improved by eight points from Tuesday’s opening round to move into sole possession of third place at 68 points, while Braemar Golf Club’s Scot Cook finished four points back in fourth with 66 points.

Defending champion Scott Dehn, of Chaska Town Course, posted a 36-hole total of 64 points to finish tied for fifth with Fountain Valley Golf Club’s Rick Larsen.
