Headwaters Golf Club

Hole 6

Headwaters GC, ranked by Golf Advisor as Minnesota’s No. 4 public course, is nestled in the secluded north woods next to Fishhook Lake. Designed in 1969 as The Country Club, its tough trio of holes, 6, 7, and 8, were created in 1997 for safety, while the three originals (now 19, 20, and 21) became a mini-course where juniors practice.

A snaking fairway on the par-4 6th challenges golfers on positioning and course management. This No. 1 handicap hole is sure to make a golfer think twice about taking the left side off the tee. The best line of attack is down the right for a good look at the well-guarded (two bunkers left and trees right), three-tiered green. Running it up to the green is an advised strategy.

“You have to be careful about where you put the ball because the green is fast,” manager Tadd Usher says.
