Hole 4

Following the straight and narrow is typically a good life plan and it can be fruitful on the golf course—particularly on the tight, tree-lined and arrow-straight No. 4 at Litchfield GC. The course, nearby Lake Ripley, has water on 15 holes, and a pond right of the fourth green awaits big hitters straying from the path.

“The pond starts at about 265 yards, and we recently took out some trees that protected it,” golf lead Bryce Manning says. “So, if you have a slice (for right-handers) and can really bomb it, water can become a factor.”

The back-to-front sloping green is bunker-protected front left and right, and contains a couple of edges mid-left and mid-right that can funnel away your approach. Still, fortune favors the bold:

“If you're accurate with your driver and long, you can be rewarded,” Manning says. “It can bring birdie into play fairly easily.”
