How They're Doing: Minnesotans on Pro Tour Money Lists -- April 22
April 22, 2024
NISSWA, Minn. – A pair of net eagles late during his round helped Rich Loeber to a final-round total of 36 Stableford points for the come from behind victory at the 2020 Minnesota Golf Association Net Amateur Championship at The Pines at Grand View Lodge Wednesday, defeating Bernie Lueck to successfully defend his title.
Loeber, who claimed his first win at the event last year at Hastings Golf Club, entered the final round two points behind 18-hole leaders Rick Larsen and David Yesnes following Tuesday’s opening round at The Preserve.
Loeber got off to a quick start with a net birdie on the opening hole before closing out his front nine with two bogeys and a double. Loeber would begin his back nine with a net bogey on his 10th and followed it with a net double-bogey at the 12th.
But Loeber would find his footing in a hurry by carding two net birdies and a pair of net eagles over his final six holes to complete the come-from-behind victory, collecting 36 Stableford points on the final day to capture a one-point victory.
KUNKLE CLAIMS WOMEN’S NET AMATEUR IN PLAYOFF
A net eagle early on her back nine gave Cindy Kunkle the boost she needed to finish Wednesday’s final round of the 2020 Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Net Amateur Championship in a tie with Sally Deyak before prevailing in a playoff.
Deyak racked up 35 Stableford points during Tuesday’s opening round at The Preserve to take a four-point lead over Shawna Johnson.
Kunkle carded a net double-bogey on the opening to begin Wednesday’s final round, but bounced back with a net birdie at the fourth and would erase the four-point deficit with Deyak after nine holes.
Both Kunkle and Deyak collected 15 Stableford points over the final nine holes to finish the 36-hole championship in a tie with 63 points before Kunkle was declared the winner in a scorecard playoff.
